ISO 9001 in Construction

ISO 9000 is a quality assurance process that applies universally to all industries. First Time Quality® takes this universal quality assurance process and applies it to the construction industry.

ISO 9001 in Construction

As a Quality Assurance System, ISO 9001 can be summed up in four words: PLAN, DO, CHECK, and ACT. In construction, this means:

  • PLAN.  Planning the resources you apply to your construction process, including labor, materials, tools, and equipment. Your construction quality management plan defines how you manage your resources as part of your quality assurance system.
  • DO. Doing what you say. You put your quality management plan into motion and follow it on your construction sites.
  • CHECK. Checking that you are doing what you say. Documenting what happens, checking that against your client’s requirements, and recording the results.
  • ACT. Acting on what you find. Improving what you do. Identifying ways that you can improve your quality assurance systems and revise them as needed.

ISO 9001 Construction Quality Standards

While the ISO standards do not tell you how to structure your PLAN, DO, CHECK, ACT principles, ISO standards are very prescription and define what quality measures you must include in your quality management system.
